Worst Litter! Swheat Scoop Multicat Natural Litter. Not so Flushable.

I bought this product thinking it would be a great alternative to clay litter. I live in a small apartment building and only have a 6 mo. kitten.

I studiously cleaned out the litter once every two days and flushed it as the instructions state. Still, this litter caused major clogs that backed up the toilet AND tub of the apartment below mine.

Plumbers had to roto up to my apartment and down to the main sewage system for 4 hours to clear the numerous cement-like clogs that were caused by this litter.

I emailed the company with my complaint and had the following response from "Mark Hughes, General Manager":

"I wanted to write so you knew that our litter cannot clog a pipe. If you want to see how it reacts in water just put some in a bowl of water.

You will see that it does not stay clumped, does not stay hard and cannot bind enough to clog a pipe. Wheat is biodegradable and will breakdown in water. I would bet your pipes are plugged from clay litters which are not biodegradable and will clog a pipe."

Since I've never used clay litter, and Mr. Hughes could not have known one way or the other in the first place, I have to say that not only is the product not as advertised, but the customer service is also SERIOUSLY lacking.

I will not be using this product at any time in the future.

We've used Swheat for years
by: Anonymous

Hmmm....We've used Swheat for years. I'd have to agree with the comment above about scooping daily. We have three cats and scoop twice a day. Also the comment about letting it soak...we let it soak for at least 20 minutes.

My floor is ruined

Ever since I used this litter in my bathroom, I've had what looks like a fungus on my floor from this litter. Horrible. Can't get rid of it.

Clogged Pipes
by: Anonymous

I had the same issue, it clogged my toilet, which in return was a huge plumber bill. It does not dissolve like it claims to.

Flushable it is!

I think you need to clean the litter box daily. Even with one cat, the box should be scooped daily. It's understandable why the litter clogged the pipes if you're flushing such a large amount from cleaning it not very often. I have 3 cats and i scoop twice daily and i've not had any problems with it not flushing. I live in a 650 sq ft condominium

Swheat scoop

Huh, you really had problems with the litter? I am surprised because I have been using it for a year with no problems at all. I scoop twice a day and let the litter sit in the toilet fro at least 10 minutes before flushing it down. I love the product! Sorry you has such a negative experience with it!
